This book is a great introduction to Life Cycle Assessment. I found the history aspect at the start insightful and interesting. It is always helpful to know where something has come from.

I have used this book extensively as an on hand reference when I have not clearly understood something. Not sure I have read cover to cover, but still feel it is a must have in the bookshelf of any aspiring designer.

The exercises also provide an opportunity to get into the detail and better understand how decisions are made within LCA.

This book is a classic, It is both inspiring and interesting to read. It tracks the life and times of the Founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard. An interesting times these were. Turns out Yvon was an early climber on the big walls of Yosemite, which demand respect and an early innovator with climbing equipment.

How To Do Eco Design by Ursula Tischner et al.

The title 'How to do Ecodesign' and the authors are Ursula Tischner, Eva Schmincke, Frieder Rubik, Martin Prosler.

The 'Ecodesign' title dates it to the late 1990's before the term sustainable design was used widely. This book was originally published in 2000 and seems pretty durable as many of the principles still apply.

LCM Worksheet

The Second of the life cycle thinking series was held in Auckland this week on the 3rd of  July. The event was attended by a group of about 20 people and the response was generally very good. It was great to see some of the participants from the other regional workshops in june.

 

This workshop focussed on 'Life Cycle Management', which encompasses the application of life cycle thinking within an organisation.

The Christchurch workshop was held on Thursday with a reasonable turn out. Most participants were experienced designers or design engineers so it was an ideal audience for the 3rd Life Cycle Thinking workshops.

The CPIT was an ideal venue, although we had to swap lecture theatres half way through the session.
