From Wool to Weta

Professor Paul Callaghan's interview with Kim Hill on national radio was an interesting article about Innovation in New Zealand. Wool to Weta. The article centres on a new book that Callaghan has authored. Outside his field of science but more focussed on economic matters the book Wool to Weta - Transforming New Zealands Culture and Economy.

His position is an interesting one, that advances the case for change in the way New Zealand approaches science and technology. A key he says is encouraging people to step into the commercial domain.

He spouts the value in companies such as Fisher and Paykel healthcare and Weta Workshops as achieving hugely valuable products and technology from within New Zealand.

He makes no mention of how design can interface with Technology, but perhaps would be an interesting extension to his ideas and with someone of his intellect would surely provide value.
