For our staff day we volunteered out at the TECT All Terrain Park and then enjoyed some of the activities available there. The visit was made possible by the team out at TECT including Ric Balfour and Ranger Jerron McInnes.
They organised all of the plants, spades and equipment and trucked it out to the spot where we were going to be planting. We based ourselves from the lovely reception centre which is at the heart of the park. The team of eight tackled the planting in the morning and after lunch walked the Te Rerenga Loop and then went Mountain Biking. We managed to loose Jono and Chris and after a rescue effort turned up nothing we found ther were already back at base!
The guys out there made the experience thoroughly enjoyable and we hope to be back out there with a bigger team in a few weeks when summer starts creeping in.
The parks vision: “to develop a unique recreational venue and regional destination that caters for a wider range of adventure and education activities, in a managed sustainable way.” The park is still in its infancy and there is a long way to go, but it is a fantastic resource for the Bay of Plenty and particularly the Tauranga area.
