Ubco - The Utility Bike

We first met Anthony Clyde and Daryl Neal (e-bike industry pros), at the 2014 Fieldays Innovations. We were blown away by their lightweight electric farm bike which debuted in the Innovation Centre that year. We saw huge potential and awarded them the Locus Research Innovation Award, which we used to develop their branding and marketing. Together we created a new brand for the versatile Ubco 2x2 – The Utility Bike. The name reflects the adaptability of the bike across multiple industries, with a logo derived from the custom frame design.

The team then embarked in some serious field testing with St Johns’ Ambulance as well as on-farm tests, thrashing the prototypes within an inch of their lives. As the project grew so did the need for more expertise. Anthony and Daryl asked Locus to help them with the further development of the bike and with commercialisation. Our team worked to establish the commercial structure, create the brand and develop the communication materials surrounding it, and then worked on the frame engineering and supply chain. This has resulted in the refined bike ready for presale at the 2015 Fieldays Innovations Accelerator

The Locus Research Award played a big role in helping us recognize what we had. The support through our journey has been amazing and has helped us keep on developing the idea into a business. - Anthony Clyde
