Jono brings a wide variety of innovation and product development experience to his role at Locus. He has driven complex multidisciplinary product developments from research to market entry. Jono has a strong interest in medical devices and the application of design into the health sector.

Demonstrating his passion from early on, Jono worked diligently on internships throughout his university education. These experiences gave him skills in concept generation and 3D CAD development.

Jono completed his education at Brunel University graduating with First Class Honours and the Best Final Year Design Project. His Neonatal Acoustic Protection System won him the Smart: Scotland funding award. Upon graduation, Jono gained a position at Lightweight Medical Ltd in Glasgow. His award winning project led him to become the Lead Product Design Engineer on internal neonatal product developments, representing the company at monthly board level client review meetings.

Jono then took a lead role within Onzo as a Product Design Manager. He led the development of the Smart Energy Kit, an award-winning domestic energy monitoring system. Jono went on to design the SEK sensor mechanics, casings, user interfaces, and product brand definition. He built and led the test team on the hardware, firmware, and user end-to-end test program.

Jono joined Locus Research in 2011 and dove in head first to manage the Delloch HipFit hip protection project. He directed research, design engineering, testing, compliance, brand, and marketing work-streams to achieve market entry within 12 months. In 2012, the HipFit system won a Best Award in the non-consumer category.

For a number of years Jono was a guest speaker at the Glasgow School of Art and Brunel University’s design courses, lecturing in sustainable design methodologies and design process.

Jono’s passion and wide ranging experience in the applied product development and innovation sector provides a unique set of skills within the Locus Research team.
